Overview: The Southwest Tennessee Rural Education Cooperative (SWTREC) is a coalition of superintendents from 12 districts (half of which are rural) surrounding Memphis. This report presents the findings from an online questionnaire administered by SWTREC districts on the extent of and challenges to offering online and distance learning courses in their high schools. The study finds that more than 80 percent of the 17 responding schools offer online or distance courses, and schools use the courses primarily to offer dual enrollment. Technological limitations are the most commonly cited challenge.
