2013 Virginia Association of School Superintendents Conference: Assessment and Accountability That Make Sense

REL Appalachia’s Deborah Jonas presented at the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) conference. The presentation, “Considerations When Selecting Student Assessments,” included a framework for developing a ‘Theory of Action’ as a way to articulate the purpose and expected outcomes of implementing new assessments to educators and other stakeholders. Jonas also reviewed summative and formative assessments, discussed the importance of choosing assessments that are aligned with the specific needs of local school divisions, and detailed different ways to measure student growth.
