WVSLRA summary

The West Virginia School Leadership Research Alliance (WVSLRA) seeks to help West Virginia schools develop and support effective education leaders and address the challenge of recruiting and retaining quality staff, particularly in rural areas of the state.

Long-term goals:

Build the capacity of districts and schools to use data and research-based strategies to address leadership development and teacher recruitment and retention.

Short-term goals:

  • Help alliance members understand district-level turnover rates of teachers and school leaders.
  • Share research-based best practices pertaining to teacher and leader recruitment and retention.
  • Identify and disseminate leadership-development tools and strategies to enhance the skills of current school and district leaders.

West Virginia Workforce Readiness Alliance

WVWRA summary

The West Virginia Workforce Readiness Alliance (WVWRA) focuses on building the capacity of West Virginia educators to engage students in authentic career-based curricula that prepare them for the workforce.

Long-term goals:

  • Share the most relevant research-based information on career and technical education (CTE) and related curricula, reaching affected stakeholders (educators, students, and parents) in order to cultivate a more fact-based (rather than stereotype-based) culture around and understanding of CTE.
  • Show how CTE prepares students for the workforce.
  • Help educators, students, and parents understand authentic workforce development.

Short-term objectives:

  • Examine CTE best practices, and research the effectiveness of West Virginia’s Simulated Workplace initiative.
  • Disseminate information about CTE as a strategy for career readiness and success after high school.
  • Organize technical assistance on best practices for preparing high school students for the workforce.
